Volunteer Opportunities – 2024/2025 School Year
1. KM Club needs volunteers! The success of this popular event depends on the help of our parents and is a great opportunity to collect volunteer hours for the year while supervising your children during the run. Volunteer descriptions and registration can be found in the sign-up link.
2. Additional KM Club Volunteers: We have three volunteer opportunities on Wednesday, March 12 at 8:45 am (right after drop off). We will meet at the library, assemble the wristbands and prepare all necessary materials for the upcoming spring KM Club. This will take approx 2h, and your help will be invaluable in enabling this popular program. Interested volunteers, please contact Maik Hassel at 604.315.8446 or
3. We have another volunteer opportunity for the Spring KM Club: We are looking for one detail-oriented parent to help us with data entry for the duration of the spring runs. The volunteer would need to be present at the last run of the week (typically Friday, but it might be Wednesday in case of pro-d days), wait til the end of the counting to take home the folders, transfer the week’s runs to a spreadsheet and return the folders on Monday before the run starts.
Interested parents would need access to a computer with internet connectivity and be familiar with either Excel or Google Sheets.
This usually takes no more than 1h of time per week but is a perfect combination with counting at the end of Friday’s run (another volunteer opportunity). Interested volunteers can reach out to Maik at 604.315.8446 or
4. Our Library needs your help! Come help organize, revitalize, and enhance the books in the library for our young readers. Please remember to leave your email when signing up. Upon successful signup, you will receive a training video to view and learn from before your volunteer session.

Kilometre Club Is Back!
This spring, we are, again, conducting a 7-week run/walk around McLean Park starting Monday March 31st and going until Friday, May 16th. The events will take place immediately after school, with warm up starting at 3:10 pm and runs starting at 3:20 pm sharp at McLean Park. Participants must register using THIS ONLINE REGISTRATION FORM by Wednesday, March 26th. Runners will receive medals or trophies based on the total amount of KM run.
Parents and supervisors are encouraged to participate as well: While the students earn medals, parents have the opportunity to compete for a free Pizza Lunch for their kids’ class at the end of the term!
Parents can earn participation points by either volunteering at the KM club or running/walking a minimum of three laps during the club. The class with the highest parent participation points at the end of the term will receive a free pizza lunch!
KM Club is open to all students, staff, parents, caretakers, and daycare children. Parents or caretakers must be at McLean Park to supervise their child/children during KM Club. However, while supervising your child you may want to run or walk yourself, or you can volunteer.
Volunteering for KM Club counts towards volunteer hours, and there are volunteer opportunities before, during, and after KM Club. To register for volunteer opportunities, please take a look at the volunteer descriptions and the sign-up link in the Volunteer Opportunities section of this Monday Note.
Please contact Maik Hassel at 604.315.8446 or with any questions.

Community Response Need
We have been informed of an urgent need for a used cell phone for a family in our community who is experiencing financial hardships and a critical health emergency that requires hospitalization. Do you have a cell phone you’re no longer needing and are willing to donate to this family, enabling them to communicate between the hospitalized member and their caregiver? Please contact Lisa Klym () to donate.
