Middle School Choir
Hello, middle school students. I’ve heard that some of you (not all) are missing choir classes, and wishing you had an opportunity to sing. Well, now is your chance. Ms. Allen is starting an afterschool choir just for middle school students. If you are interested, please fill out this form so I know when I can run rehearsals. I would like to get started in the week of January 20. Any questions, please talk to Ms. Allen.
Reminders from the School Office
- We’ve noticed that there seems to be some backsliding with regards to students and their uniforms. Please ensure that you send your child to school in their proper uniform. Please note that “proper uniform” includes their uniform pants/skirts (as opposed to jogging pants/cargo pants) and black shoes. Not having proper shoes is the most notable “uniform offence”, and we’d like to work together to be more consistent in ensuring that students are showing up and wearing their proper uniform.
- Additionally, we have noticed a slow increase in the amount of “lates” that are occurring. Please be reminded that students are to be at the middle campus and in their classrooms by 8:15 am, and students are to be at the elementary campus by 8:50 am. Thanks for your continued support and partnership with us as we equip your child to impact the world for Christ’s glory!

Understanding, Supporting and Connecting with Teens with Depression – Tricities FamilySmart
When our teens are struggling with depression, we can feel lost about how to best support them. How do we know when they are experiencing a mental health challenge and when should we intervene? Join us to learn from Karen Peters, Registered Clinical Counsellor, and Victoria Keddis, a parent with lived experience, about how depression shows up in teens and ways of journeying with them through it. Come together with other families to watch this video presentation, which will be followed by a facilitated discussion by a FamilySmart Parent Peer Support Worker.

Board of Governance News
The Board of Governance is pleased to announce that we have appointed Ron Donkersloot as the chair of our new transitional school board. Ron comes with over 40 years of experience working in education, many of those years having been spent in Christian schools. Establishing this school board is another step in the process towards creating an independent society for Hope Lutheran Christian School; it is an important step in preparation for the upcoming church congregational vote on the creation of a new school society. A next step will be finding additional board members to join Ron on the board. In the meantime, if you have any questions about this, please don’t hesitate to contact Danny Nagtegaal ().

Join us on Monday, January 20th at 7pm for an important seminar discussing why parents need to matter more than peers and offering practical solutions for retaining or regaining the parent/child attachment.

Hope Lutheran Church (HLC) Welcomes You
As you start a new school year at Hope Lutheran Christian School, you might be considering finding a home church for you and your family. Hope Lutheran Church gathers every Sunday, 10:00 am and many other activities happen through the week, including Youth and Young adults groups. Adding to that, Pastor Lucas is in the office and around the school every week, as his kids also attend Hope Lutheran Christian School. You are free to talk with him at any time, he will be happy to share more about the teaching and the life of the Church. If you’re looking for a church home, give Hope a try! We look forward to welcoming you and your family into the HLC community.
