Our School’s New Website
We are excited to announce that the school’s website has undergone an extensive makeover during the summer. We hope that it’ll bring a fresh look and make it more user friendly for our school community and other online users.
We invite you to explore the new website at https://school.hopelcs.ca/ and share it with your friends.
Parents should note the following pages that will be particularly important and useful:
- Under the Resources menu, you will be able to find our school calendars, Monday Notes, Parent participation opportunities and other general information such as school supplies and uniforms.
- The Absence Reporting form is now located under the Connect menu.
- Information about our Bursary Program for new students is found under the Admissions menu.
We hope you’ll enjoy using the new website.
After School Violin Lessons
Welcome back everyone! Ms. Allen is pleased to announce that this year we are planning to have violin lessons for students after school on Thursdays. We have classes for beginning students Kindergarten, Grade 1, and a Grade 2&3 combined class. There is also an ensemble class for those students who already play a stringed instrument. Classes are starting soon. The information for the class is here, and registration is here. Please email Ms. Allen () for more information, or if you have any questions.
Mr. Anderson and Mr. Payan are continuing the online Chess Club following the success of the previous years. We will be using “ChessKid” (www.chesskid.com) as our online platform. This year, we will be hosting in-person chess tournaments throughout the year with schools across SD #43. We are aiming to start our online weekly games September 19th (Tuesday) in preparation for our first in-person tournament on October 18th.
The weekly seasonal games are for Hope LCS students in Grades 2-5 and will occur on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 3:45 – 4:45 pm. Unfortunately, supervision during after school care will not be regularly available. As a result, students will need to play at home. However, students that sign up will have access to lessons, puzzles, or practice anytime with their account.
If your child(ren) wants to get involved with the chess club to improve their skill, learn tournament etiquette, participate in the SD #43 tournaments, or can commit to playing the online weekly games during the aforementioned time, please use THIS LINK to sign up.
Those that are interested will receive another letter with more information shortly.
Please respond to our quick poll on our HLCS Parent Community group Facebook page.
Submissions are open for the September newsletter. If you have an achievement to celebrate, a story to share, or something of significance that happened over the summer, please let us know. Submissions to Lisa Klym at . Deadline for the September newsletter is Wednesday, September 6th. Submissions are also open for the October newsletter.
Small group online Bible reading plans for men and women are conducted throughout the year using the YouVersion Bible app with both groups running simultaneously.
You are invited and welcome to join other parents and our school administration to pray (even if you’ve never prayed before!). Please consider setting aside 30 minutes of your time at the beginning of each week to join us for Parent Prayer as we pray for our school, families, and community.
We meet outside at the Elementary Campus by the main entrance.
Every Monday from 8:45 – 9:15 am (except for holidays).
Monthly prayer sessions are held the last Tuesday evening of every month at 7:30 pm for one hour in the Elementary Chapel. All are welcome, children are encouraged to participate.

KM Club Announcement
Kilometre Club is back!
This fall we are again conducting a 6-week run/walk around McLean Park on Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays after school, starting Monday, September 18 until Friday, November 3. The events will take place immediately after school, with warm up starting at 3:10 pm and runs starting at 3:20 pm start at McLean Park.
Participants must register using this online registration form by Wednesday, September 13. At the end of the year, runners will receive “Milestone Tokens” based on the total amount of KM run.
Km Club is open to all students, staff, parents, caretakers. Parents or caretakers must be at McLean Park to supervise their child/children during KM Club. However, while supervising your child you may want to run or walk yourself, or you can volunteer. Volunteering for Km Club counts towards volunteer hours and there are volunteer opportunities before, during, and after KM Club. Please see the volunteer descriptions in the KM Club posting below and the sign-up link to register for volunteer opportunities. Please contact Maik Hassel at 604.315.8446 or with any questions.
Volunteer Opportunities – 2023/2024 School Year
We are looking for volunteers for lunchtime supervision at the Port Coquitlam campus from 11:50 am – 12:45 pm each day. This extra support is needed so the students can go over to McLean Park.
Orientation will be provided. Thank you so much for giving your time in this area! You can sign up at the following link: Lunch Supervision Term 1 Volunteer
We have three volunteer opportunities on Thursday, September 14 at 9:00 am. We will assemble the wristbands and prepare all necessary materials for the upcoming fall KM Club. This will take approximately 2h, and your help will be invaluable in enabling this popular program.
- We will hold an introduction for first-time KM Club volunteers on Wednesday, September 13. Here, we will go through the responsibilities of the various volunteer positions during the run, setup, and cleanup procedure, counting and cleanup, and everything you need to know to make the event a fun experience for everyone.
We will meet at 9:00 am, right after drop off, at the main entrance door of the elementary campus.
KM Club needs volunteers! The success of this popular event depends on the help of our parents and is a great opportunity to collect volunteer hours for the year while supervising your children during the run.
Volunteer descriptions and registration can be found in the sign-up link.
We appreciate the involvement of parents to capture images of the life of our school. Please send your good quality photos/videos to for school media purposes. Unless a Do Not Photo request is on file, these images may be used for our school social media and/or promotional materials.
