For more than 30 years, Hope Lutheran Christian School has been dedicated to realising our mission to equip each child to impact the world for Christ’s glory through providing quality Christian education in the beautiful community of Port Coquitlam, British Columbia.

Founded by Hope Lutheran Church in 1995, our school currently serves over 300 students from grades K-8 across two campuses.

We are focused on delivering high quality educational experiences supported by an amazing community of staff who are passionate about equipping students for the future.

Community Relations Officer 

(Part-Time, 0.3–0.5 FTE)

Hope Lutheran Christian School

Hope Lutheran Christian School is seeking a Community Relations Officer who is passionate about building relationships, strengthening community, and supporting the mission of the school.

This role is ideal for someone who loves connecting people, organizing meaningful events, and helping others feel a deep sense of belonging at Hope.

About the Role

The Community Relations Officer is a valued member of the Advancement Team who helps cultivate a vibrant and connected community that reflects our core values of Equipping, Belonging, and Discipling.

Working closely with school leadership, staff, and parent groups, this role focuses on strengthening relationships within our community and helping families engage more deeply in the life of the school.

Key Responsibilities

Building Community

  • Welcome and connect new families into the Hope community
  • Encourage and support parent involvement and volunteer engagement
  • Build strong communication channels with parent groups
  • Support the Parent Teacher League (PTL) and its initiatives
  • Help plan and organize key school events (e.g., Open House, Fall Carnival, Bethlehem Walk, Gala, and other community events)
  • Coordinate with staff, volunteers, and external partners
  • Represent the school in connecting with the  broader community
  • Create opportunities for students,  families, alumni to engage and serve together

Communication & Engagement

  • Assist in preparing school communications (e.g., newsletters, updates, promotional materials)
  • Support storytelling through social media and school platforms
  • Help maintain photo and media resources for school use
  • Contribute to strengthening the school’s overall communication and presence

Support & Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively with school leadership on community-related initiatives
  • Participate in meetings with staff, leadership, and parent groups as needed
  • Assist with donor appreciation and community relationships
  • Support event logistics, vendors, and project coordination
  • Take on additional responsibilities as needed to support the life of the school 

Qualifications & Experience

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to coordinate events and manage multiple tasks
  • Comfort using basic digital tools (email, social media, documents, etc.)
  • Initiative, flexibility, and a willingness to learn

Assets:

  • Experience in event planning, communications, or volunteer coordination
  • Familiarity with school or church communities
  • Experience with social media or basic graphic/content creation

Compensation & Work Schedule

  • FTE: 0.3 to 0.5 (part-time)
  • Salary Range (Full-Time Equivalent): $56,000 – $67,000 per year
    (Prorated based on FTE)
  • Flexible scheduling with some evening or event-based commitments

Reporting Structure

This position reports directly to the Principal and works closely with the school leadership team.
