Volunteer Opportunities – 2025/2026 School Year
Bursary Gala Assistance Needed
Library Volunteers
Volunteer opportunities available at the elementary school library, for anyone who is comfortable using computers. Please contact Ms. Francescini, or drop by the library so she can explain the jobs.
Fruit Program
Thanks to a Feeding Futures grant from the BC government, we are able to offer a daily selection of Fruits and Vegetables for Grab and Go at each of the campus offices. Kids are delighting in stopping on a regular basis to pick up an apple, banana or maybe even a strawberry!
We could use some adult volunteers to help manage this program. Duties would involve washing and portioning fruit for service, approximately 15-30 mins each day. If you are interested in getting involved, please contact Emily Reilly, at . Many hands will make light work!
Cone Set Up Needed at Elementary Campus
We are looking for an individual or a few to help with setting up cones in the morning before 8:30 am. This typically takes 15 minutes and would be ideal for those parents who need volunteer hours and need to drop off at before school care. Any parent(s) are welcome to help with this task and it would be greatly appreciated. There will be a training set up to know where to place cones and signs. Please contact Jennifer Watson if you are interested.

Heart Beats Sessions
Our Grade 5 classes would like to invite any community members (e.g. parents, grandparents) to Heart Beats. Sessions will take place on the following dates:
- February 10th
- March 3rd
- April 7th
- May 5th
- June 2nd
You can come those days either from 9:00-9:45 AM (Grade 5B class) or from 11:15-12:00 PM (Grade 5A class)
Please reach out to Mr. Mayer if you have any questions ().
Ash Wednesday Chapel
February 18th: Ash Wednesday marks the start of the Season of Lent and is a significant date in the Christian calendar. To observe it, we will hold a special Chapel Devotion at 9:00 AM, and parents are warmly invited to join our K-8 students. The service will include worship songs, a brief message explaining the day’s significance, and the tradition of placing ashes on the forehead led by Pastor Lucas. We look forward to beginning this season of reflection together!
Parking Lot Etiquette
Thank you to the vast majority of our parents who continue to show patience and adherence to our drop off and pick up procedures. However, we have noticed an increase in disputes/disagreements in these two following areas.
- Morning Parking lot drop off is at the BACK of the lot. Do not stop or park in the front parking area, but drive through to the back (by the overpass) to let out your students. This is the most time efficient way to let out students and not cause a traffic backlog in the lot and subsequently York Street.
- After school Pick Up. Please park in the designated spots only. If no spots are available please circle the lot until one opens up or park at MacLean Park or along York Street. Due to the tight turn around our South Wing building the space behind the last parking spot at the back is not to be used for parking.
We understand the frustration of not finding a spot nearby, especially in rainy weather, but ask for adherence to the listed procedures to help maintain the order of these busy times and consideration of others in our community.
Bursary Gala Tickets on Sale NOW!
Our annual Bursary Gala fundraiser is happening Saturday, March 7th and tickets are on sale now in both campus offices. Mark your calendars and prepare to join us for this incredible evening in support of our Margaret Towriss Bursary Fund. Tickets can be reserved through this link: Ticket Reservations
Parents are needed to help with ticket sales and event assistance. Please choose your area of interest:
100 Cans by 100 Days
As part of their Foundational Learning Experiences (FLEx) in Term 2, the Kindergarteners are working toward collecting 100 cans of dog and cat food by the 100th day of school (February 17). These donations will be given to a local animal shelter to support animals in our community. We invite our whole school community to help us reach this goal. Any donations are greatly appreciated and can be given to Mrs. Stiles (KA) or Mrs. Mendoza (KB). The Kindergarteners are excited to show kindness by caring for God’s creatures in this practical way.
Genesis 1:28: God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”

Scholastic Book Club January/February Flyer
This month’s flyer has been distributed. You can also view the digital version online. On their website, you’ll find an even wider selection of titles, especially for older grade students up to Grade 6, so we encourage families to explore it. Don’t forget to use our school’s Class Code: RC131640 at checkout for free shipping to the school. Thank you for supporting literacy and inspiring a love of reading in our students.
We’re excited to highlight Storyvoice– Scholastic’s free platform for live read-alouds with authors and illustrators. Students and families can join weekly sessions where authors read from their books, answer questions, and bring stories to life at home. It could be something as simple as holding the door open for the person walking behind you or taking time to thank someone who offered you help or support. There is no lower limit to kindness.
