Students will watch a video to learn more about the Heart & Stroke Foundation and have discussions about important healthy habits that they can practice for life which include: eating fruits & veggies, being active for an hour or more per day, being on screens for less than 2 hours and choosing water over sugary drinks. Port Coquitlam May Days – Maypole Dancing
Every year the City of Port Coquitlam hosts a May Days celebration starting with an opening ceremony and culminating in the May Day Parade. This year we would like to put together a team of Grade 3-5 students to perform the opening ceremony Maypole Dance along with other Port Coquitlam school teams. If your child is interested and you are able to commit to the practice and performance times, please complete the Google Form so we can secure our place at the opening ceremony. Gym Sense
From January 27th-February 14th, students will be participating in a gymnastics program called Gym Sense. The instructor, Miss. Lucinda, will be leading students through different stations and teaching different skills such as rolling and balancing. Students in Grades 2-5 are expected to be in their gym strip and everyone (K-5) are expected to have bare feet as much as possible. It is preferable that girls wear socks instead of tights for gym days, as this makes changing much easier. Modesty shorts are required if girls are in kilts or tunics. Please reach out to Mr. Mayer if you have any further questions: .
Badminton Winter/Spring 2025
Dear Parents,
We’re excited to share some updates for the upcoming Winter and Spring sessions. First off, the students may be delighted to know there will be fewer bunny hops and we will focus more heavily on racket skills! All classes will have the opportunity to earn points towards a year-end pizza party, and this includes all students who have registered anytime during the entire school year.
- Schedule Changes:
Mondays will be added to the Spring season
- Team Tryouts for Grades 6 & 7:
We will be hosting tryouts during this Winter season to form a team for the Grades 6 and 7 students to participate in the CESS tournament in April. If your child is not currently registered for afterschool lessons but wishes to take part in the tryouts, please email Coach Ken directly – there is no cost to tryouts and tournament participation
- Grade 8 Tournament Opportunity:
There is a tournament exclusively for Grade 8 students this year and tryouts will begin soon! If we can form a team, this will be a fantastic opportunity for them to represent our school and compete!
I strongly encourage middle school students to join this Winter season to better prepare for these exciting tournaments. It’s a wonderful chance to develop their skills, build teamwork, and experience the thrill of competition.

Deepening Our Understanding of Emotion Regulation – Supporting Our Young People with Big Emotions – Presented by Tricities FamilySmart
This is your invitation to join FamilySmart for a special, online event on Wednesday February 12th from 6:30 – 8:00 pm.
Have you ever found yourself looking at your child’s emotional outburst and thinking, “What the heck is happening?” or “This doesn’t make any sense,” or “What on earth are they so upset about – it’s not that big a deal?” If so, you are certainly not alone! Many parents describe feeling as though they’re walking on eggshells or avoiding taking their children out in fear of an emotional ‘meltdown’ which can be embarrassing, upsetting, and can lead to some pretty big emotions for the grown ups as well.
If this sounds like you, or like someone you care about, please join us for an evening filled with information about what can lead to big emotions and for some concrete strategies for responding skillfully to those situations. Nicole Allen (RCC) will join us live on Zoom to lead us through an evening of learning which will expand upon some key points including:
- Understanding emotion dysregulation as a skills deficit, and identifying strategies to grow those skills.
- How to anticipate when big emotions will occur, and exploring specific skills for responding to it.
- Understanding how the principle of attunement can be a roadmap for finding solutions that will work for you and your family.
- Hoping for the best, planning for the worst – so that everyone knows what to expect.
- How to repair the relationship when it’s all gone wrong.
It’s a free event, but registration is required, so please follow this LINK to register. We hope to see you there!
