Volunteer Opportunities – 2024/2025 School Year
1. Open House – Our school will be hosting the first Open House of the school year at the elementary school on Thursday, October 17 from 6:30 – 8:00 pm. Here are some great opportunities to get involved and accumulate some volunteer hours SIGN UP.
2. Parent Teacher Meeting Dinner Provisions – We are seeking help within our School Community to provide our teachers and staff who will be working late with a well deserved dinner break during the October 24th Parent Teacher Conferences. Take note, both middle school and elementary school are separated into 2 sections. Each location will have slightly different requests based on individual needs.
3. KM Club Volunteers – KM Club needs more volunteers! Especially the important set-up and cleanup/counter positions are still vacant. We cannot run this event without your help!
Not only is this a great way to collect volunteer hours for the year while supervising your children during the run, you also collect points for your child’s class to win a free pizza lunch at the end of the term.

Upcoming Parent Teacher Conferences
Our first formal connection point – Parent Teacher Conferences is coming up next week on Thursday, October 24. These are scheduled times to meet with your child(ren)’s teachers to discuss their progress so far. An email will be coming home today with instructions on how to set up your account before the appointment booking system opens – Thursday, October 17. The booking system closes Wednesday, October 23 at 12:00 pm.
Updated Cell Phone and Technology Policy
This school year, BC Schools were required to implement cell phone policies that promote student mental health, and limit how much time students use their phones during the school day. We have included our updated cell phone policy with our laptop/technology policy in our Parent Handbooks, which can be found on the school’s website. You may also read through the policy HERE.
Terry Fox Run
After another successful run on October 11 lets try like Terry #NoMatterWhat to raise funds and awareness for Cancer research. Pledge sheets were sent home for you to start collecting pledges. If you require an additional pledge sheet please contact Mrs. Stiles at . All pledge forms need to be returned to school by October 16. Cheques are to be made out to ‘Terry Fox Foundation’. Fundraising is optional. You are also able to donate online using this link. Together, we can make a difference.
Photo Retake Day
Photo Retake Day will be on Friday, October 18. This opportunity is for families who would like to have a retake of their child(ren)’s photos or if students were absent during the photo day of September 16.

Ringette
Students in Kindergarten to Grade 8 participated in one or two ringette sessions last week during PE classes. They were taught basic skills and rules for how to play the game. This program was put on by the PCRM Ringette Association for free and you can see more information about this organization by reading the information sheet below. (A big thank you to coach Megan for leading the sessions and Mrs. Schroeder for organizing this program for our students!)
FREE Drop In Fitness Program – HEART BEATS
The Grade 5 classes will be offering a drop-in fitness program called Heart Beats starting on Friday, October 18th. These will take place once a month and include opportunities to stay fit and make connections between our school and church community. School parents and church members are invited to come and participate in this program!
Time: 12:45-2:15 PM (One class will lead 4 sessions from 12:45-1:30 and another class will lead 4 stations from 1:30-2:15 PM. Feel free to stay for both sessions or one – whatever works best for your schedule)
Location: This program will take place in the gym at Hope Lutheran Christian School. We will have students welcoming you at the door and bringing you to the gym if needed)
Dates: October 18th, November 15th and December 13th (Stay tuned for additional dates after Christmas)

Deepening Our Understanding of Emotion Regulation – Supporting Our Young People With Their Big Emotions
You are invited to an evening filled with information about what can lead to big emotions and some concrete strategies for responding skilfully to those situations. Nicole Allen, a Registered Clinical Counselor, Mom, Wife and dog lover, will lead participants through an evening of experiential learning to deepen their understanding and practice.

Dough Raiser fundraiser with Cobs Bread
Are you looking to purchase bread or treats from the Oxford location of Cobs Bread? Anyone who buys something at the Oxford Cobs Bread location just has to say they are a part of Hope Lutheran Christian School and 5% of their total transaction gets put aside for our school. This is an ongoing fundraiser.

Family Bowling Night – Friday, November 1
Hello Hope Families!
The PTL is looking forward to a school-wide family event on Friday, November 1st.
We’re going bowling!
There are two time-slots to choose from: 6:15-7:30 pm OR 7:30-8:45 pm. Please arrive promptly to get your shoe rentals.
Tickets are $12 per person, which includes bowling, shoe rental, 2 pizza slices & a pop. Please sign up online here first and then bring exact change to either the Elementary or Middle School office between October 16 – 23 to confirm your spot & receive your tickets.
Next Wednesday, October 23, is the last date to register and pay and there are only 48 spots per timeframe available, so make sure to sign up soon! You must have a pre-paid ticket in order to bowl as tickets won’t be available for sale the day of.

PTL Meeting Sept. 12, 2024
It was awesome to meet you online through Zoom! In total we have 106 attendees who joined our first PTL Meeting in 2025-206 School Year. We have shared lots of important information in the meeting. Term 2 Refund Cheques
The term 2 Parent Participation Program refund cheques from the 2023-24 school year are now available for pick up with Mrs. Klassen at the elementary school campus. If you partially completed your Term 2 hours and expecting a refund that’s you! Please pick up immediately!
KM Club
Kilometre Club is happening!
We are in the midst of our fall 7-week run/walk around McLean Park Mondays, Wednesday, and Fridays from 3:20 – 3:50 pm, which started Monday, September 16th and will end Friday, November 1st. The events take place immediately after school, with warm up starting at 3:10 pm and runs starting at 3:20 pm sharp at McLean Park. Participants must register. If you missed the registration period please contact Maik Hassel at 604.315.8446 or with any questions.
This fall, we are trying something NEW: While the students earn “Milestone Tokens”, parents have the opportunity to earn their kids’ class a free Pizza Lunch at the end of the term!
Parents can earn participation points by volunteering at the KM club or running/walking a minimum of three laps during the club. The class with the highest parent participation points at the end of the term will receive a free pizza lunch!
Km Club is open to all students, staff, parents, caretakers, and daycare children. Parents or caretakers must be at McLean Park to supervise their child/children during Km Club. However, while supervising your child you may want to run or walk yourself, or you can volunteer.
Volunteering for Km Club counts towards volunteer hours and there are volunteer opportunities before, during, and after KM Club. Please see the volunteer descriptions and the volunteer sign-up link in the Volunteer Opportunities section of this Monday Note.

Parent Prayer
You are invited and welcome to join other parents and our school administration to pray (even if you’ve never prayed before!). Please consider setting aside 30 minutes of your time at the beginning of each week to join us for Parent Prayer as we pray for our school, families, and community.
We meet at the Elementary Campus every Monday from 8:45 – 9:15 am (except for holidays).

Our first seminar in our Equipping Parents series was held last Monday and attending parents were equipped with relevant information on technology and tools to help their children thrive.
