100 Years of Hope – Opening Service, Sep 29, 10:00 am
Hope Lutheran Church was officially founded in September 1955, and Hope Lutheran Christian School officially opened its doors in September 1995. Next year, we will celebrate a remarkable milestone: 70 years of God’s blessings for the church and 30 years of blessed service through the school.
To honour these great milestones, we are excited to launch our “100 Years of Hope” celebration! This year-long celebration will feature events and activities that bring our community together in thanksgiving, praise and action, culminating in September 2025.
We warmly invite our entire Hope community to join us for the Opening Service on September 29th at 10:00 AM.
Come join us with your family and let us all celebrate together 100 years of Hope!

Respectful Parking at Elementary School Campus
A reminder to our returning families and a notice to our new families to please park respectfully in areas around the school during drop-off and pick-up times. This includes refraining from parking in front of a school neighbour’s driveway or parking on Frey Place.
The student body just spent today learning how to be REAL (respectful, encouraging, adoration, loving) in all areas and times of school, and as a school community we have the opportunity to be REAL our neighbourhood too!

Badminton
Welcome back to another exciting school year! We are thrilled to announce that badminton lessons will start right away, with the first session tomorrow! While I will be stepping back this year to focus on some personal matters, we are excited to introduce Coach Wen, who will be joining us to help our students elevate their badminton skills to new heights! Coach Wen brings a wealth of experience, having recently coached at Johnson Heights Secondary School in Surrey, where he guided their team to the Provincial Championship last year. He is truly delighted to be part of our Hope community and is ready to give his all to help your children succeed in the badminton program.
This fall, with so many exciting activities at Hope, badminton will be offered Tuesdays for grades 1, 2, and 3, and Fridays for grades 6, 7, and 8. We sincerely apologize that we are unable to accommodate grades 4 and 5 this fall, but there are plenty of other fantastic sports options available, like volleyball and basketball for the students to join! You can find the sign-up link below, and as always, feel free to reach out to Coach Ken if you have any questions.
Lastly, here is a special reminder for our middle school students: CESS, organized by Mr. Lok, is expected to take place next April! Mr. Shutsa had also found the means to organize a competitive tournament exclusively for our grade 8 students, also scheduled for next April! We hope to see all of our middle schoolers continuing to train hard in badminton and proudly representing Hope in both of these amazing tournaments!
Payment is preferred to be via E-transfer to “ “; however, if you choose to pay in cash, please contact Coach Ken directly to arrange a time for pick up. Let us give our new Coach Wen the time and focus on our students during lessons.
2023-24 Yearbooks!
2023-24 Yearbooks are still available! If you did not purchase a yearbook for last school year, stop by the Elementary School campus office to purchase one for $25.
Terry Fox Dress Down
On Friday, October 4, 2024, we will be holding our whole school Terry Fox Run. This is a dress down day where students are invited to bring $2 (for Cancer Research) and wear their Canadian colours (red and white). Please ensure that students are able to run comfortably in what they choose, and dress for the weather.
Terry Fox Run
It’s time for a Terry Fox Moment. During his Marathon of Hope Terry set a goal to raise $1 million for cancer research. He crushed it. So he upped his goal: he wanted to raise $1 from every Canadian: there were 23 million of us back in 1980. Almost no one – except Terry – believed it was possible for a 21-year-old, one-legged runner to raise $23 million. But Terry crushed that goal, too! Today, thanks to kids like us and people from all around the world, more than $900 million dollars has been raised in Terry’s name! That money is helping the very best scientists in Canada discover new and better ways to diagnose, treat, and prevent cancer. The moral of this story is simple: You, too, can crush your goals if you Try Like Terry!
Our school will be participating in the Terry Fox Run again this year. Pledge sheets were sent home today and should be returned by October 11, 2024. Fundraising is optional, but all students will participate in the run at 9:45 am on Friday, October 4, 2024. Let’s get our fundraising going and show everyone how we can run for Terry as he ran for us, #No Matter What!
Donations can be made online using this LINK.
Our goal for this year is for every class to have at least 10 sponsorships and to raise over $4500.
“And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.” – Hebrews 12:1-2
Scholastic Book Club is Back!
We are excited to announce the return of the Scholastic Book Club to our school! The club offers a wide range of age-appropriate books, from picture books for our youngest readers to captivating novels for older students. By participating, you not only provide your child with the gift of reading but also help our school earn valuable resources such as books and educational materials.
How the Scholastic Book Club Works:
1.Browse the Catalogue: Your child will bring home a Scholastic Book Club catalogue filled with a variety of book selections. You can also explore the digital version by clicking this link. Take some time to review the options with your child and choose the titles that interest them.
2.Place Your Order: Visit the Scholastic Book Club website to place your order online. Be sure to use our Class Code: RC131640 and select Ship to School as the shipping method. When our total school order reaches $40, shipping to the school is free!
3.Delivery to School: Once the books arrive, we’ll distribute them to your child’s classroom.
4.Enjoy Reading: Your child will soon be enjoying their new books and discovering exciting stories.
We encourage you to explore the catalogue with your child and discuss their book choices. Your support helps foster a love of reading and strengthens literacy in our school community. If you have any questions or need assistance with the ordering process, feel free to contact Mrs. Kang ().
Happy reading!

Hope Connect
Dear Parents,
As Hope’s Development Director and Community Relations Officer, we often wish for opportunities to really connect and have deeper conversations with those in our school community. After a successful trial last year, we are continuing to engage our parent stakeholders to really connect, listen, and share information through our regular casual Parent Dessert Evenings. Hosted by Lisa Klym and John Lok with a small group, this is an informal evening to unwind, meet other parents, give feedback about school, learn more about Hope, and enjoy dessert with good company. The first two of our dates are listed in the sign up below with limited sign up spots. The meetings usually start at 7:00 pm and finish no later than 8:30 pm. Location will be emailed out to attendees. We look forward to seeing you.

Equipping Parents Seminar
Anxious Minds: Building Resilience In Our Kids
Why are our kids increasingly anxious, more likely to be depressed, and so drawn to experiencing a curated world through their devices?
Parents, join us on Monday, October 7th from 7:00 – 8:30pm in the Elementary Chapel as we delve into the allure of the digital world, its ability to shrink our experiences, and (most importantly) proven practices that the Church is uniquely positioned to implement, in order to see our children thrive beyond the screen.
We have invited Brad Strelau who is a local pastor at Coquitlam Alliance Church. Pastor Brad is currently working on his Ph.D. with Wesley House in Cambridge, UK, exploring the relationship between Church liturgy and mental health.
Please let us know if you plan to attend so we know how many to expect: Equipping Parents Seminar Sign-up. You are welcome to invite friends – this seminar is open to anyone interested in knowing more about this topic.
Newsletter
Our school publishes a monthly newsletter where we highlight student achievements and special interest articles written by our students. This year we have a new monthly column entitled Our Impact where we will showcase members of our Hope community impacting their world for Christ’s glory. Do you have an achievement, special interest or impact story to share? Submissions to Lisa Klym at . The October newsletter will be published October 4th.
Open House
Parents, we’ve learned from our admissions interviews that an overwhelming majority of our applicants come to our school because of word-of-mouth recommendations from our school community. We are thankful that you are our best advertisers!
Do you know of a family ready to explore education options for their child? Do you have friends or family looking for a school that offers more than just an academic education, one that you can call home?
Please forward this digital information sheet and encourage them to check out The Hope Difference at our upcoming Open House on Thursday, October 17 from 6:30 – 8:00 pm.
